Artem Chigvintsev Calls For The Dancing With The Stars Judges To Be On The Same Page

It’s unknown how the ratings for dancers are decided when the three judges, Carrie Ann Annaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli convene to talk about a performance that just went down. However, Artem Chigvintsev is feeling confused after Monday’s show.

Artem and Kaitlyn Bristowe receive a different rating from each judge. As you can tell, the ratings are all over the place. Artem recently spoke out and said that he wants them to get on the same page so he knows how to choreograph his dances.

Specifically, Carrie. One of her criticisms was that she felt that Kaitlyn gave up at times during the routine which Artem understandably feels isn’t a fair criticism.

He explained his confusion to ET Online.

‘My thought, No. 1 is, does content of the dance not count anymore? Because it’s weird to me when we supposedly have to pursue a certain type of dance. I’m not going to speak of any specific couples, but I feel like, is there some kind of a standard now what dance should look like, or what it shouldn’t? It’s hard because if you compare the content level of what Kaitlyn has been doing, which Derek actually appreciated and said, like, ‘That was actually amazing to see a real Paso Doble.’ Not just walking around the room and pretending to be a certain character.’

He went on to question if the judges would rather have gimmicks than choreography that stays true to the dance.

‘I’m thinking right now, we should probably put a lot more gimmicks [in]. I did not know that this show required being gimmicky on the dance floor, because at the end of the day, yes, you have a certain character, but you still have to do dance steps. Maybe that’s what we’re missing. Maybe we just need to strip away actual learning how to dance and do more gimmicks. Maybe that’s what the judges will appreciate more.’

Artem’s co-star, Val Chmerkovskiy, also feels that the scoring is all over the place. This comes after a string of criticism about the show starting with Tyra Banks taking over Tom Bergeron’s hosting gig.
