It's almost Valentine's Day and that means it's time to buy some very romantic chocolates.
Whether it's for a partner, friend or family member, Valentine's chocolates are a staple of the special day.
But with so many to choose from, how are we meant to pick the right box?

The rows of colourful boxes on supermarket aisles all promise to be full of the best chocolate that will bring the romance, but some are just downright disappointing.
So in a bid to find out what I should get my partner this year, I pitted the classic Ferrero Rocher and Lindt chocolates against Waitrose, M&S, Tesco and Lidl's own brands.
Lindt - £6.40
Let's face it, Lindt rarely disappoints - and this box is no different.
There’s a range of chocolates to please everyone from white to dark and with variations like caramel, orange and coffee.
My personal favourite was the ‘dragon noir’, which was perfectly balanced and made me feel like the romantic lead in a Hollywood film seductively biting into an expensive chocolate.
Score: 5/5
Ferrero Rocher - £8.50
Can you go wrong with Ferrero Rocher?
The solid hazelnut is a welcome surprise amidst the soft creamy chocolate hazelnut spread and the crunchy chocolate casing is always satisfying.
They’re a dangerous treat that I’ve been known to consume very quickly and almost always alone.
But I wouldn’t say a box of chocolates can be worth this much money for what is essentially one kind of chocolate in a pretty box.
Score: 3/5
Lidl - £2.49
There’s not much variation in this pack, but the ocean theme still makes the chocolates a delight to look at.
There are seahorses, stars, and several types of shells all exquisitely coloured with different kinds of chocolate.
And the flavour was just as enticing.
Reminiscent of Ferrero Rochers, the chocolates’ smooth hazelnut interior fit perfectly with the crunchy chocolate shell.

The chocolates were a bit sweeter than Ferreros, meaning I could only manage two in one go before feeling a bit sick.
But at this price, they're easily just as good as Ferrero Rocher and possibly even nicer to look at.
Score: 4/5
Waitrose - £4.60
Opening this box was a treat in itself.
The chocolates were exquisitely pretty and really gave the saying ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ new meaning.
Each chocolate was prettier than the last, but more importantly, they were also ridiculously tasty.
And at this price, they’re a steal.
The passion fruit posset was a particular favourite of mine; I love a bit of tanginess among the sweetness of chocolate.
Score: 5/5
M&S - £6.25
The beautiful box of chocolates would be pleasing to the even most proper perfectionists; this is the only time I’ve seen confectionery aligned so diligently and it made for a very modern, sleek feel.
And the chocolates didn’t disappoint either; the ‘triangolo’ in all its crunchy hazelnut glory was possibly even better than a Ferrero Rocher and the selection of chocolates was certainly worth paying for.
Score: 5/5
The verdict
Whoever said you can't celebrate Valentine's Day without a very pricey box of Ferrero Rocher was lying.
In my opinion, Lidl's much cheaper alternative is just as good.
And if you're looking for more variation, Lindt may be great, but Waitrose and M&S are both wallet-friendly alternatives.
