Back in 2015, Julianne Moore won the Academy Award for Best Actress, but just because she received an Oscar, it doesn’t mean that roles in Hollywood are 100% guaranteed. In fact, Julianne revealed that very fact during an interview on Andy Cohen’s show, Watch What Happens Live.

According to Moore who spoke with the host, she never actually left her role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, the director fired her. At first, she was supposed to play Lee Israel but the part ended up going to Melissa McCarthy instead, one of the stars of Bridesmaids.

Melissa was actually given an Oscar nomination for her role. “I didn’t leave that movie, I was fired,” Moore said to Cohen. She went on to say that it was actually Nicole Holofcener who gave her the ax. Moore went on to say that Nicole simply didn’t like what she was doing.

They both had different expectations for what they wanted for the character, and for that reason, Nicole fired her. Moore went on to say that she still hasn’t watched the film because it has become a pain point for her.

According to Moore, she felt pretty bad about the whole thing, because the last time she was fired was when she was 15-years-old. Holofcener went on to leave the project and Marielle Heller signed on as the director instead in what became perhaps the most ironic aspect of the situation.

There’s no question that earning an Oscar doesn’t ensure one’s roles for the rest of their career. Matthew McConaughey, as well, has come upon hard times in recent years due to a slew of commercial failures at the box office, including his latest film with Anne Hathaway, Serenity.

Matthew won an Oscar for his work in Dallas Buyer’s Club, and also had several other acclaimed movies around that same time, including Interstellar, Lincoln Lawyer, and Killer Joe.

Julianne, on the other hand, has earned several nominations and awards throughout her career, including for Magnolia and Boogie Nights. Some of her other movies have become cult classics like The Big Lebowski as well as Children Of Men.
