Dr. Jane Goodall is a good friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and she says that the couple never intended to raise Archie Harrison as a royal. Speaking with Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine, Goodall shared a conversation she had with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the summer of 2019.
Goodall is currently on lockdown in Bournemouth, and she revealed during the interview that Prince Harry hinted about his plans to leave the royal family just weeks after Archie Harrison’s birth in May 2019.

The 86-year-old anthropoligist says that it happened at the end of her interview with Prince Harry for the September issues of British Vogue that Markle guest-edited. It is believed to have taken place in July 2019 at St. George’s House, Windsor Castle, when Goodall was at an event to raise awareness for her Roots & Shoots program.
“At the end [of their conversation] Meghan came in to listen with Archie,” recalled Dr. Goodall.
“He was very tiny and very sleepy – not too pleased to be passed from his mummy. I think I was one of the first to cuddle him outside the family. I made Archie do the Queen’s wave, saying, ‘I suppose he’ll have to learn this.’ Harry said, ‘No, he’s not growing up like that.’”
Just six months after that exchange, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plans to step down as senior members of the royal family and live a private life in North America. Meghan and Harry officially gave up their HRH titles on March 31st, and they now live in Los Angeles with Archie, who will turn one next month.

This past week, Harry and Meghan revealed that the new name for their upcoming charitable foundation will be Archewell after Queen Elizabeth put the brakes on their plans for a Sussex Royal brand.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said in a statement that they “look forward” to launching the Archewell Foundation when “the time is right.” But, right now, they are in isolation at their Los Angeles home.

The couple explained that they landed on the name Archewell because the Greek word “Arche” means action, and it was also the inspiration for their son’s name.
