Daniel Smith, a former Clay High School football player, and Irish receiver, is Skylar Diggins’ current fiance. Diggins and her long-term partner got engaged on June 20, 2016, after dating as boyfriend and girlfriend for a long time. They married in April 2015, and they have been enjoying their married life ever since, with Skylar changing her name to Diggins-Smith.
How did Skylar Diggins start her Professional Career?
Diggins’ career began in high school, and she finished with 2,790 points, the third-highest female scoring total in Indiana history, averaging 25.9 points per game. Throughout that time, she led the Panthers to state championship games, including Washington’s championship season in 2007.
Diggins has won the Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year award twice. She was a WBCA All-American as well as a McDonald’s All-American. Diggins was the fourth Indiana native to join the Irish as a freshman after graduating from high school in 2009-2010. She was one of three Miss Basketball awardees on the Notre Dame roster in 2009-2010.
She also set records for thefts, attempted free throws, and made free throws. Diggins’ professional career began when she was selected third overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Tulsa Shock. Following her perfect game score, she was named to the All-Rookie Team.
She had a breakout season in the 2014 WNBA season and was named a WNBA all-star for the first time. On June 28, 2015, Diggins tore his ACL with 44 seconds remaining in a regular-season game.
Diggins was a member of Team USA at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzen, China. The team won all six games to win the gold medal. Diggins finished third on the team in scoring with 68 points. In September 2015, she learned that she would not be able to compete in the World Championship.
